Office Hours Live: Let’s talk circles
Livestream from March 6, 2021 - We went really indepth about Newton's Laws and how we experience weight to answer the Problem of the week. Then we wound down and drew Celtic knots with a compass. Here is a list of topics with their timecodes, in case you want to jump to a particular topic.
Newton's Law of Forces and how we experience force - starts at 0:09:12 - In order to answer the problem of the Week we first had to go on a journey to talk about weight and how we experience force. We also talk about centripetal force and gravitational force and how we can use this force to slingshot us around a planet
Solution to the problem of the week - 0:50:00 - We really go into rotational motion. More on this next week as we apply this to planetary orbits. Check out this Okay Go music video to see this in action.
Geosychronous orbit- 1:08:00 - I m ade a mistake somewhere, so I will be investigating it for next week's stream. The actual height of a geosynchronous orbit is about 35 million meters, not 2 billion. If you saw what I did wrong, please let me know my misstep in the comments.
Celtic knots - 1:28:00 - We go over how to make a hexagon, equilateral triangle, and a perfect square in a circle. WE then use these shapes to build a triquetra, a basic cross and a combination of a cross and triquetra.
